Cheddar Challenge 2006

11 April 2006  |

This year the Cheddar Challenge is 18 years of age. Cheddar has reached maturity! The event is now the longest running classic in the U.K. and to celebrate we want to host a very special autumn event.

Broadway House, promoters of "Cheddar" are pleased to announce the dates for 2006. September 30th and October the 1st.

With the transition from all encompassing season finale to ultimate cross country trail festival complete, Cheddar's focus now is on refining and improving the races for the benefit of riders and their families. In this respect 2006 will be one more step on a long ladder in t he event's history, however it will be a very special occasion given that 2006 will be the 18th C.Challenge and the longest single running event in British mountain biking history. The Cheddar schedule will remain practically unchanged. This includes the Crunch and the Triple 12 plus the kid's races and a night stage race to make these competitions even more exciting and enjoyable for both competitors and spectators alike. However to make competition even more r efined we are following the enduro format. Check out the website for details. We are aiming to surpass anything that has gone before.

Our 18th event at Cheddar will be a marked reminder to all riders of the gruelling nature of competing at Cheddar. No rolling hills and trials here on offer but plain tough "bare knuckle "biking. That is Cheddars heritage- maximum output, searing climbs, insane descents and the mother of all wooded single track-witches wood. Of course with all the cheesy capers that naturally accompany the races at Broadway House, it is easy to forget that racing at Cheddar is as tough as titanium pancakes! 850ft of climbing awaits every rider, every lap right outside the arena! For those who return in their hundreds year after year, for their annual brawl with the rocks and roots this is nirvana.

Our focus has been on building up to this landmark fixture which will cement Cheddar as the longest running classic in British mountain biking history.

In between all that you will see from the new website that we are also hosting three short course downhills and three B.M.X events, two of which will be nationals and in July a European Final. We are really proud of our cycling heritage and hope you will support us this year.
